Already have an ad image? The free image resizer crops it to Meta's feed or Stories size. If you need new feed and Story ads from one product photo, the AI ad creative generator makes 4:5 and 9:16 ads with the headline placed for each shape.
What size should a Facebook ad image be?
A Facebook feed ad image should be 1440 × 1800 pixels (4:5), the size Meta's Ads Guide recommends. The minimum is 600 × 750 pixels and the maximum file size is 30 MB (Meta Ads Guide: Facebook Feed).
Meta allows a 3% tolerance on the feed aspect ratio, so an image close to 4:5 runs without a crop. A 4:5 image fills the most screen space Meta offers in the feed, so your product shows large on mobile without being cropped.
Is 1080 × 1350 still a valid size?
Yes, 1080 × 1350 is still valid: it is the same 4:5 ratio and above Meta's 600-pixel minimum, but Meta now recommends 1440 × 1800. Two other sizes from older guides still appear:
- 1080 × 1080 (1:1) still runs in the feed and is Meta’s ratio for carousel, Marketplace and the right column.
- 1200 × 628 (1.91:1) is an older landscape size; Instagram Feed still accepts 1.91:1 as its widest ratio.
4:5 takes more of the phone screen than 1:1 or 1.91:1.
Is 1:1 or 4:5 better for Meta ads?
Meta recommends 4:5 for Facebook and Instagram feed placements; 1:1 is the recommended ratio for carousel, Marketplace and the right column. Pick the ratio by placement, so each ad matches the shape Meta shows there.
What size is an Instagram ad image?
An Instagram feed ad image should be 1440 × 1800 pixels (4:5). Instagram accepts ratios from 1.91:1 to 4:5, a minimum width of 500 pixels and files up to 30 MB, with a 1% ratio tolerance (Meta Ads Guide: Instagram Feed).
Instagram Explore home ads use the same image specs (Meta Ads Guide: Instagram Explore home). Meta recommends up to 125 characters of primary text and 40 characters of headline for Instagram feed ads, so your copy shows in full without being cut off.
What size are Stories and Reels ads?
Stories and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram use 9:16 images at 1440 × 2560 pixels, with a minimum width of 500 pixels, a 1% ratio tolerance and files up to 30 MB (Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels). The Instagram Reels page recommends 44 characters of primary text.
What is the safe zone for Stories and Reels ads?
Meta asks you to leave roughly 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side of a Stories or Reels image free of text, logos and key creative elements, so the profile name and the call-to-action button never cover them.
On a 1440 × 2560 image, that is (our calculation from Meta's percentages):
- Top: about 358 px
- Bottom: about 896 px
- Each side: about 86 px
Blogs that quote "20% at the bottom" or "250 px" do not match Meta's current pages. Product Aura's social ads pack keeps the top 15% and the bottom 35% of every story ad free of text, slightly stricter than Meta's 14%, so your headline is never covered by the profile bar or the call-to-action button.

What size is a Facebook carousel ad image?
Each Facebook carousel card uses a 1:1 image of at least 1080 × 1080 pixels, and a carousel has 2 to 10 cards (Meta Ads Guide: carousel). Each card takes a JPG or PNG up to 30 MB, with a 3% ratio tolerance.
Meta's text recommendations per card:
- Primary text: 80 characters
- Headline: 20 characters
- Description: 18 characters
- Landing page URL: required for each card
What sizes do Marketplace and right column ads use?
Facebook Marketplace and right column ads use 1:1 images of at least 1080 × 1080 pixels, in JPG or PNG (Marketplace, right column).
Right column ads show on desktop only, with a minimum of 254 × 133 pixels. Meta recommends no text on right column images "due to the small image size", so a clean product photo works best there.
Can you use the same image for feed and Stories?
You can use the same image for feed and Stories, but Meta then crops or extends it to fit. Uploading a 4:5 image for feed and a separate 9:16 image for Stories and Reels avoids that, so you decide what each placement shows.
Advantage+ creative changes images on its own: "Image expansion uses generative AI to automatically expand your creative for the 9:16 vertical aspect ratio of Reels", and "Fine-tune visuals" adjusts the aspect ratio "where it can improve performance" (Meta: Reels ads). Placement customization in Ads Manager lets you upload one image per placement group instead.

Cropped to 4:5 (feed)

Cropped to 9:16 (Stories and Reels)
A crop works for a plain photo. If your ad carries a headline, Product Aura's social ads pack makes 4:5, 9:16 and 1:1 images of your real product from one photo, with the headline placed for each shape; the mix of shapes depends on the product type.
How much text can a Facebook ad image have?
A Facebook ad image has no limit on the amount of text. The 20% text rule ended in September 2020, when Facebook removed the Text Overlay tool and said it would "no longer penalize ads with higher amounts of image text in auctions and delivery" (Social Media Today, September 22, 2020).
Facebook still advised advertisers to "keep your text short, clear and concise". Product Aura keeps on-image text to one short headline and leaves prices, offers and buttons to Meta's own ad fields, so the image stays readable on a phone and you can change the offer without a new image.
Which file type and file size should Meta ad images use?
Meta ad images must be JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB per image, on every placement in the Ads Guide. The right column page states no file size.
JPG keeps photos small; PNG suits images with sharp text.
Why do my Facebook ads look blurry?
Facebook ads usually look blurry when the image is smaller than Meta's recommended 1440 pixels wide, so the screen scales it up. Upload at 1440 × 1800 for feed or 1440 × 2560 for Stories and Reels.
How do you make Meta ad images in every size?
Upload one product photo to Product Aura and choose the social ads pack: it makes feed (4:5), Stories (9:16) and square (1:1) images of your real product, with story headlines inside Meta's safe zone.
- Upload one photo of your product.
- Choose the social ads pack and check the image plan.
- Download the feed, story and catalog images and upload them to Ads Manager per placement.
