What are Amazon's image requirements for product listings?
Amazon requires every listing to have at least one image. The main image must show the whole product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), filling 85% or more of the frame, at 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side, in JPEG, TIFF, PNG or non-animated GIF.
The main image carries the strict rules: background, fill and no added content. The Amazon staff posts cited here state those rules for the main image. Amazon's detailed rules for additional images sit in Seller Central behind a login, so this page does not list them. These are the image requirements for an Amazon listing's gallery; module sizes for the section below the listing are on Amazon A+ content image sizes.
What are the Amazon main image requirements?
The Amazon main image must show the entire product, alone, on pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255), filling 85% or more of the frame, with no added text, logos, watermarks, borders or props.
Does Amazon require a white background?
Yes. Amazon requires a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) on the main image. Off-white, such as RGB 250, 250, 250, is not pure white, and neither is a light grey studio backdrop. To check a file, sample the pixels in the corners and along the edges: each should read exactly 255, 255, 255.
How much of the image must the product fill?
The product must fill 85% or more of the image frame. Amazon staff phrase it as "85–100%". Product Aura scales the cut-out product so its longer side spans 85% of the frame, then centres it.
What is not allowed on the Amazon main image?
The main image may not contain text, graphics, logos, watermarks, borders, colour blocks, illustrations, or accessories and props that are not included with the product.
Allowed
- The whole product, in full view
- Pure white background, RGB 255, 255, 255
- Product filling 85% or more of the frame
Not allowed
- Added text, badges or graphics
- Logos or watermarks added to the image
- Borders and colour blocks
- Illustrations instead of the product
- Props that are not included with the product
What size should Amazon product images be?
Amazon product images should be at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side to enable zoom, and 1,600 pixels or more is optimal. Amazon accepts 500 to 10,000 pixels.
What is the minimum image size for Amazon zoom?
Zoom works when the image is over 1,000 pixels on its longest side. Below that, Amazon still accepts the image down to 500 pixels, but shoppers cannot zoom.
What is the maximum image size on Amazon?
The maximum is 10,000 pixels on the longest side. Amazon's staff posts state no maximum file size in megabytes.
What aspect ratio should Amazon product images be?
Amazon sets a pixel range for the longest side, not a fixed aspect ratio. The Amazon staff posts cited here name no required ratio.
Square (1:1) is the common choice in practice, and it is what Product Aura makes for Amazon. That is practice, not an Amazon rule.
What size does Product Aura export?
Product Aura exports the Amazon main image at 2000 × 2000 pixels as a JPEG, and the other Amazon images as square images at 2K (about 2,000 px). That is inside the 500–10,000 px range and above the 1,000 px zoom threshold.

Amazon accepts JPEG (preferred), TIFF, PNG and non-animated GIF image files.
Which colour mode should Amazon images use?
Amazon accepts RGB or CMYK colour modes.
sRGB JPEG gives the most predictable colour in browsers. This is a recommendation, not an Amazon rule.
How should Amazon image files be named?
Name each file with the product identifier (ASIN, ISBN, UPC, EAN or JAN), then a period and the extension, for example B0XXXXXXXX.jpg.
Product Aura's ZIP uses readable names in slot order, such as 01-main-white.jpg and 02-infographic-features.jpg, for uploading by hand in the listing editor.
How many images can an Amazon listing have?
An Amazon listing needs at least one image. Amazon recommends six images plus one video.
Product Aura's Amazon set has five images by default (main image on white, feature infographic, lifestyle scene, in-hand scale shot and detail close-up), plus an optional benefit banner that makes six. It does not make video.
Can you use AI-generated images on Amazon?
Amazon allows AI-assisted listing images. Since June 2026, images with photorealistic, fully AI-generated people must carry the keyword contains-synthetic-performer in the image's XMP dc:subject field.
The rule covers listing images, A+ content, Brand Story, Stores and video. Real people, even if edited with AI, fictional characters and images with no people are exempt.
Product Aura does not write the XMP keyword. When an Amazon set includes a shot with a realistic person, such as the in-hand shot, the ZIP includes a short note about Amazon's rule. The note can be turned off in Settings.
Why does Amazon reject or suppress product images?
An Amazon main image breaks the published rules when the background is not pure white, when it carries added text or logos, when the product fills less than 85% of the frame, or when it is under 500 pixels on the longest side.
- Background: off-white, grey or a scene instead of RGB 255, 255, 255.
- Added content: text, badges, logos, watermarks, borders or props not included.
- Fill: the product covers less than 85% of the frame.
- Size: under 500 px on the longest side (and under 1,000 px means no zoom).
- Format: a file that is not JPEG, TIFF, PNG or non-animated GIF.
How do you check an image against Amazon’s requirements?
Check the background, fill, size and format of the main image against the table at the top of this page: corner pixels at RGB 255, 255, 255, product at 85% or more, 1,000 px or more on the longest side, and a JPEG file.
