Etsy photo size and listing photo requirements (2026)

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels in both width and height. The first photo must be at least 635 pixels wide and tall, or the listing may show up lower in search.

A second Etsy help page, How to create a listing, says "at least 2000 pixels wide". Both pages point to 2000 px, so a 2000 × 2000 px square, or a landscape image with both sides above 2000 px, meets both.

What is the minimum photo size on Etsy?

The first listing photo must be at least 635 pixels in width and height, according to Etsy Help. Smaller first photos can rank lower in Etsy search.

What aspect ratio should Etsy photos be?

Etsy asks for a first photo that is horizontal (landscape) or square, and the same help page says to "avoid square crops" and upload horizontal images. Etsy states no exact ratio. After upload, you can adjust the thumbnail crop ("Select Edit to adjust the image thumbnail").

A landscape image above 2000 px on the short side gives Etsy room to crop the thumbnail without cutting the product. Product Aura's Etsy photos are landscape 4:3 for that reason.

Why are my Etsy photos blurry?

Etsy photos usually look blurry when the upload is smaller than Etsy's recommended 2000 pixels, or when the thumbnail crop enlarges a small part of the image. Colour is a separate issue: Etsy converts images to sRGB, so a CMYK file can shift colour after upload.

Etsy accepts .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg and .heic image files. It warns that images over 1 MB may not finish uploading on slower connections.

Product Aura exports Etsy photos as JPEG at least 2,000 px on the short side. It lowers the JPEG quality in steps to bring each file under 1 MB, and the platform checklist on the set warns if a file is still over.

Etsy allows up to 20 photos and 2 videos per listing.

What are the Etsy listing video requirements?

Etsy listing videos can be up to 100 MB, need a minimum resolution of 500 px (1080 px is ideal), and play without sound. Etsy accepts MP4, MOV, FLV, AVI, 3GP and MPEG video files (Etsy Help: listing videos).

Yes. Etsy requires at least one unedited photo of the actual item against a real background for most items. That photo "must not be edited or changed in any way".

Other listing photos may be adjusted for lighting, colour, cropping or background, as long as the item still looks the same. Etsy sets different rules by item type:

• Print-on-demand items may use an authorized stock mockup.
• Digital downloads need a preview.
• Made-to-order items should show past finished work.
• Patterns, recipes and seeds need one real photo of a finished result.

Product Aura's Etsy ZIP includes the photo you uploaded as 00-original-unedited, next to the four generated photos. It has no AI edits: Product Aura only turns it upright and scales it to at most 2,048 px on the long side. For Etsy's rule, that photo must show the real item against a real background (Etsy Help: listing image requirements).

Yes, within limits. Etsy allows AI-assisted tools to crop or resize images, adjust lighting or colour, or change backgrounds, as long as the images accurately represent the item.

Etsy forbids using AI "to hide damage or change an item's appearance in a way that could mislead buyers".

A separate rule covers the item itself. Etsy requires sellers to disclose in the listing description when an item is created with AI (Etsy Help). That rule is about AI-made items, not AI-edited photos. Etsy's full policy is its Creativity Standards.

Resize the photo so both sides are at least 2000 px, keep a landscape or square shape for the first photo, and save it as a JPEG under 1 MB.
