What size should Shopify product images be?
Shopify says square product images usually display best at 2048 × 2048 pixels. It accepts any size up to 5000 × 5000 pixels or 25 megapixels.
Shopify serves resized versions to each device. Its Imagery service "manages your images… to ensure the best possible format is displayed" (Shopify Help: file uploads), so one large upload covers mobile and desktop.
What is the maximum image size on Shopify?
The maximum is 5000 × 5000 pixels or 25 megapixels, with a file size under 20 MB. Older guides give 4472 × 4472 px and 20 megapixels; that limit is out of date.
Why does Shopify say my image is too big?
Shopify rejects images over 20 MB or over 25 megapixels. Resize the image below 5000 × 5000 px, or export it as JPEG to reduce the file size.
What aspect ratio should Shopify product images be?
Shopify accepts any aspect ratio between 100:1 and 1:100. It recommends one consistent aspect ratio for product images shown side by side on collection pages.
Should Shopify product images be square or portrait?
Shopify's only size recommendation is for square images (2048 × 2048 px). Portrait images work too, as long as every product in a collection uses the same ratio.
Square is the safest default when the same images also go to Amazon and other marketplaces (see Amazon image requirements).
Why do my Shopify product images look different sizes?
Product images look uneven on collection pages when products use different aspect ratios or different amounts of white space around the product. Export every product at the same ratio and frame the product the same way in each.
