Amazon main image checker: test your photo against Amazon's rules

Drop an image. The checker tests background, fill, size, file type and borders in your browser, against the Amazon image requirements. Nothing is uploaded.

Results appear here: background, fill, cropping, border, size, zoom and file type.

What does the Amazon main image checker test?

The checker tests 7 things Amazon's main image rules cover:

  1. a pure white background, RGB 255, 255, 255;
  2. a product that fills 85% or more of the frame;
  3. the whole product in the frame, not cut off;
  4. no border;
  5. 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side;
  6. over 1,000 pixels so zoom works (1,600 or more is optimal);
  7. an accepted file type: JPEG (preferred), TIFF, PNG or non-animated GIF.

How does it check for a pure white background?

The checker reads every pixel in the outer 2% of the image and counts how many are exactly RGB 255, 255, 255, the value Amazon requires. An off-white such as 250, 250, 250 looks white but is not pure white, so it gets a warning. How strictly Amazon's own systems treat near-white is not published; the warning is this checker's caution.

How does it measure the 85% fill?

The checker finds the smallest box around everything that is not white and compares the box's longer side with the same side of the image. 85% or more passes. Amazon does not publish how it measures fill; this is the checker's method. A visible shadow counts as part of the product and can make the box larger.

What do pass, warn and fail mean?

Pass means the image meets the published rule. Warn means it meets the rule but risks a problem, such as an off-white edge or a size below the optimal 1,600 pixels. Fail means it breaks the published rule. Amazon makes the final decision: a pass here means the image matches Amazon's published rules, not that Amazon will accept it.

How do you fix an image that fails?

Most failures have a quick fix:

  • Background or fill: make the main image with the Amazon listing image generator, which cuts your product out and places it on pure white at about 85% fill.
  • Size or file type: resize for Amazon with the free image resizer.
  • Text, logos or props: reshoot the photo, or make the main image from a clean product photo.

Is my image uploaded or stored?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser, and the image never leaves your device. AI agents can check finished Product Aura sets through the Product Aura MCP server.
